New York-based artist Robert Lazzarini is known for making sculptures that question basic tenets of the viewing experience by confusing visual and haptic space. His work changes the space around the object and subsequently changes the space of the viewer. His highly recognizable style is a point of reference for distortion in contemporary art. Lazzarini's subjects mine an American malaise with currents of violence, economic dispair, memory, fear and vulnerability. These themes are usually coupled with notions of corporeal displacement and how the body becomes a source of that offset.
